Learning Environment for Students
Full-Time MBA
We take a personal approach to learning in the Kelley Full-Time MBA Program. It’s a rich combination of rigorous business teaching, experiential learning, and professional coaching.
We keep our classes small to ensure you receive individual attention from your professors and faculty. They’re on your personal team – along with other advisors, second-year peer mentors, and a dedicated career services coach who will get to know you better than you know yourself – to create a supportive environment to help you achieve the success that is meaningful to you.
Your program experience starts prior to your first semester with Me, Inc., a two-week intensive program in team-building and career development that sets you up for success over the next two years.
Your first semester will be entirely dedicated to the Integrated Core: an intensive, multidisciplinary program led by eight of Kelley’s best professors. They plan the curriculum together, then lead you through a semester-long discussion that moves seamlessly from discipline to discipline and professor to professor. Along the way, you’ll take part in simulations, experiential learning and computer-based assignments, building close friendships along the way. Simply put, 15 weeks in the Core will change the way you think about business. It will make you a better manager and a stronger collaborator. It will also give you a comprehensive understanding and global perspective of how business is done.
After the Core, you’ll enroll in Kelley’s one-of-a-kind Academy program, an experience-based mentorship-driven bridge between what you learn in your MBA coursework and how you’ll use it in the real world. Your Academy provides a supportive but challenging environment for intense professional development. You’ll be assigned an Academy Director – a well-connected, real-world expert in your chosen field who will become your mentor as you meet with them regularly. You’ll also work with career and peer coaches to learn how to network effectively, interview professionally and put your MBA skills to work. You’ll go on site visits in major cities around the United States to learn from professionals in action. And get to know representatives from Fortune 500 companies — many of whom are Kelley MBA alumni — when they come to meet with your Academy on campus
From day one, you can also take advantage of Kelley’s Graduate Career Services to help you find the major, career path and companies that are the best fit for you. And you can gain further support and career networking opportunities by joining our active Kelley Association of Women MBAs – a friendly and collaborative community dedicated to providing a supportive and open environment for all current, past, and future Kelley women to utilize so they can connect with and learn from each other to grow in the business world.
Online MBA
The Kelley School has created a virtual classroom environment in which students regularly interact with faculty and each other to maximize the learning experience. Through discussion forums, web-based live meetings, simulations, online chats, streaming video, narrated PowerPoint presentations, and emails, Kelley professors and students interact regularly without sacrificing the flexibility provided by the online format. Even the web-based live meetings are recorded, so you never have to worry about missing a session.
In addition to online classes, KD students participate in two Kelley Connect Weeks (KCWs) on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University. The first KCW kicks off the program and allows you to meet the Kelley Deans, faculty, staff, and your peers before you take your first online course. The second KCW usually occurs at the beginning of the second year of the program and allows you to work on a live business case on which a company is currently working. At the end of the week students compete in a case competition, with winning teams presenting their recommendations to the company’s executives.
Faculty
Award winners, groundbreaking researchers, corporate board members, advisors to governments and central banks around the world, sought-after consultants, and textbook authors…their resumes make a strong first impression—but for our faculty it’s the impression that they make in the classroom that counts. And the same world-renowned faculty that teaches in the Kelley Full-Time and Evening MBA programs teaches in our online MBA programs. Our professors have been recognized for their teaching excellence, including an “A” for teaching quality by Bloomberg Businessweek and #1 for best Professors by Princeton Review.
